SATURDAY 4th OCTOBER 2008
CALEDONIAN
A very
emotional evening was in prospect for everyone during the evening, it was
quite possible that this could be the last journey in the life of the
Absolutely red van. After many years of randomly breaking down,
push starts, leaking roof, non-lockable locks, slow punctures, dreadful
handling and out of date lager......the end was nigh for the van.
Arriving at the venue at 7.30ish, we were greeted with the two best things
that can ever happen to a band - The easiest lift in the world and a
free bar! Gary was the nominated driver this evening as he was still
recovering from the effects of alcohol the evening before which ended
up with him getting up in the middle of the night, stark naked, and starting
to iron. Very domesticated is our Gary.
Setup was non-eventful apart from the musical sound check of "National
Express" which went down a storm.
First set
went very well with lots of dancing and drinks being brought to the stage by
Bruce.
The talk was that we would stop out in Carlisle after playing and go
clubbing with our two roadies for the evening Bruce & Stu, and then get a
taxi home. Rock and Roll.
A few more beers and jack daniels during the break made for an energetic second set and also an energetic run to the toilet for Vinny and Cully during the intro to American Pie to relieve the pressure on the bladder from said beers and jack daniels.
We finished packing up at 1.15am and our two roadies were incapable of walking. Our rock and roll night then turned into trying to fit seven people into the van and going back home, the highlight being Stu waking Bruce up by licking his face like a sea lion.
These are the times we'll remember.............
